LinkIQ vs DSX: qualifier or certifier?

Updated 2026-10-224 modelsEvery price links to its source

The verdict

Need warranty certification? DSX. Troubleshooting and speed checks? LinkIQ.

Pick LinkIQ ifyou do service, moves/adds/changes or in-house IT: it qualifies links up to 10 Gb/s and diagnoses PoE and switch ports. Kit from about $2,950.
Pick a DSX ifyou hand over manufacturer-warranty certification reports (TIA/ISO Level V/VI). A used DSX-5000 starts around $3,000.

The details

Short answer: if a manufacturer warranty or the spec calls for certification to TIA/ISO limits, you need a certifier like the DSX. LinkIQ is a qualifier: it tells you whether a link will carry a given speed (up to 10 Gb/s) and helps troubleshoot PoE and switch ports, but it doesn't produce the Level V/VI certification reports that 25-year manufacturer warranty programs (CommScope, Panduit, Corning and others) typically require.

Price gap: the LinkIQ kit lists from about $2,950 new, against roughly $13,400–$16,600 for a new DSX2-5000 or DSX2-8000. A used Versiv-1 DSX-5000 can be found from about $3,000 to $8,500, which is LinkIQ money for certification capability. Just check the calibration date and that it's on a firmware LinkWare still supports.

Rule of thumb: service techs and in-house IT do fine with LinkIQ. Installers who hand over warranty documentation need a DSX (or a Softing WireXpert / AEM TestPro / VIAVI Certifier40G), and if certification jobs are rare, renting one is often the cheapest route.
